TÜV AUSTRIA has been supporting the construction of Bethel High School in Burkina Faso since 2019.
Three years after the start of construction, the Nanoro project is nearing completion. The buildings have been erected, the photovoltaic system has been installed, and in October Bethel High School will open its doors to the first 300 students.
The community of Nanoro is located about 85 kilometers northwest of the capital Ouagadougou. Over the past three years, the Bethel High School campus has been built here – a technical school specializing in electrical engineering, architecture and accounting. In addition to the natural priority of educating young people, the project serves to strengthen rural regions. Thanks to the boarding school, students from surrounding communities, more distant places and orphans are also able to receive an education. In the already existing Bethel High School in Ouagadougou, attention is also paid to paving the way to education for orphans and economically needy people. Another focus is on educating young girls – in the existing school, the proportion of female students is 44 percent.

Since 2019, the only Austrian technical inspection association [TÜV] has supported the project with more than €50,000 so far. In early August 2023, TÜV AUSTRIA CEO Stefan Haas and CFO Christoph Wenninger presented project coordinator Jacques Konkobo and architect Peter Klein with another donation check in the amount of €15,000. This amount will help to cope with the final challenges, such as the purchase of workshop equipment and furniture as well as the final connection of the well to the sanitary facilities.
Jacques Konkobo, himself a graduate of HTL Mödling, thanked CEO Stefan Haas and CFO Christoph Wenninger with a handmade sculpture of his home country Burkina Faso for the ongoing support of TÜV AUSTRIA.
